There are moments in life when the act of showing up is an act of profound courage. "Dans Le Milieu" is a testament to that courage. In collaboration with Human Rights Watch and local activists, I traveled to West Africa to meet 43 LGBTQ+ individuals who are living in a society where their love is criminalized. What I saw wasn’t a group of victims, but a group of people whose bravery cannot be understated. These individuals chose not to hide, but to stand tall, to show the world their faces, their pride, and their unyielding strength.
Their decision to be seen, to be known, is the heartbeat of this project. These portraits aren’t about pain—they’re about survival, resilience, and the power of self-expression. They are about taking back what was stolen and refusing to live in silence. With every limited edition print sold, 10% of the proceeds are donated to local organizations who continue to fight for these individuals’ rights. This is their story—and they are determined that the world will hear it.
'Dans Le Milieu' has been displayed at renowned museums and art fairs, and works from the series have found homes in collectors' residences worldwide. But its true purpose is to ignite change, inspire conversations, and advocate for love and equality for all.
